WHY WE LOVE FINAL GIRL PATRICIA
She’s middle-aged, anxious, socially awkward, running around in her pajamas, screaming, and carrying a nearly dead rechargeable taser. But when it matters, she is extraordinarily resourceful and brave. She survives the chase, fights back, uses gasoline against the Boogeyman, gets hold of a shotgun, shoots him, and then takes the wonderfully Patricia-like additional precaution of making absolutely certain he is dead by staying with his body through the morgue and cremation.

Patricia's Boogeyman finale moment completes a story that started years earlier. People had doubted her account of being targeted by the Boogeyman and treated her as the frightened, odd woman carrying around old trauma. Episode 8 confirms that Patricia was telling the truth and lets her confront the thing she has been carrying with her for decades. Instead of somebody rescuing her, Patricia saves herself.
In horror, a Final Girl is the woman who survives a slasher’s attacks and ultimately confronts the killer herself. In Widow’s Bay Episode 8, “Your Baggage,” Patricia Moray becomes the show’s unlikely Final Girl when she faces the Boogeyman who traumatized her decades earlier, fights back and finally defeats him on her own.
